…Gorgeous & Modern Sunflower Letterpress Invites!

If you’re planning a sunflower wedding, send a little extra sunshine to impress your guests!  Do so with these stunning swirly Sunflower Letterpress Invitations which I recently featured over at Savvy Scoop Blog

What is letterpress?  “The art of letterpress involves inking raised type and then impressing it directly onto the printing surface. The result is an impression that you can see and feel.” – Denise Johnson

This gorgeous design can also be printed in the colors curry and brown!   Choose from several different pieces to complete your perfect invitation.  Want to get a feel before you order your invitations?  Get yourself a sample by clicking HERE.

Brides, if you love the look but you’re on a tighter budget, no worries.  Consider the option of printing digital instead!  Digital printing is also a faster option if you’re in a bit more of a hurry.

Once your wedding is over, check out the Bellis Studios coordinating Sunflower Letterpress Thank You Cards to send to your guests!

To find information on this line, see other designs or to view pricing, visit the Bellis Studios site and check out her blog.

One Person I Admire In The Wedding Industry & Why…

with 10 comments

…In Honor Of The 2009 Wedding Pledge!

A few weeks ago,  I decided to take the 2009 Wedding Pledge started by Bride Tide.  I know, I was a day late.  Oops!  While there are so many people in the wedding industry and in my life that I admire and would love to mention today, there is one who has constantly been a driving, motivating force and huge support behind this blog.  My aunt, Denise Johnson – the owner and letterpress designer behind Bellis Studios!

The day Denise married into our family was the day I gained another amazing aunt, friend and now mentor too!   To know her is to love her, and I definitely do.  I am blessed with a wonderful family and I’m so happy she is now a part of it!  Her kindness is simply unmeasurable.  As is her generosity, patience and talent!

When my husband and I were planning our wedding, she surprised us by offering to design our invitations and programs for us.  They turned out amazing.  It was then I realized just how creative she was, and we immediately clicked.  Since our wedding, she has also given her time, using her extreme talent and creativity to design invitations for my other family members and friends.  I know, how lucky are we!?

On her Bellis Studios Blog, she writes,

I married a man with three sisters and they all have daughters…seven of them (and one, very out numbered, son)!!  I wasn’t in the picture when they were little.  I came along when they were teenagers and I’ve watched them grow into beautiful young women.  And now, I’m getting to know them better…through their weddings.”.

While I love her and am so grateful for her designing all of our invitations, it’s not the only reason I’m spotlighting her today.  After realizing how much we had in common and that we both enjoyed being creative, we became even closer.  I always tell her that she’s not only an aunt, friend and mentor to me, but she’s also like the older sister I never had.  I hate to say older because she doesn’t look it one bit!  She’s beautiful.

Now that I’ve told you a little about her, let me skip ahead a few years.  After our wedding, I began helping friends and families plan their weddings, showers and events.  The corners in my home were beginning to pile up with magazines, pages torn out, tucked into folders which I hoped to eventually organize to share but just never found the time.  I was becoming an inspiration pack rat!  Somebody had to stop the madness.  Seriously.

So like a fairy blog mother, Denise came to the rescue and brought to me the idea of starting a blog to keep all of my ideas and thoughts in.  With a blog, I could more easily share ideas (without the cluttered mess).  It was then, that my blog, “It’s A Jaime Thing” was born.  All thanks to Denise for encouraging me to start it!

For days and days, I would sit at my computer and write, posting pictures I loved, craft ideas, shoes…you know, pretty little happy things.  Days turned into weeks, weeks into months and months into years.  The title of my blog was never really planned, it was just “me”.  This blog was something that became my hobby.  Filled with things I loved.  It became my own little creative outlet in this world – my own little corner of the web.  It turned into a “Jaime” thing.

Since, I’ve had the opportunity to keep my “creative juices” flowing, all while hoping to inspire others along the way.  I’ve also been blessed and lucky to meet some amazing people in the wedding industry and attend some really fun, inspiring events!  Each day I write, I learn something new and push myself to find even more ideas to share with you.  I enjoy every single second of it!  Soon, with the help of Denise, I’ll even be launching my upcoming, newly redesigned site.

Denise has stood right beside me through the entire time, supporting me, designing the new site and helping come up with ideas for it!  That’s one thing I didn’t tell you about her yet.  Not only is she an amazingly talented letterpress expert, but she’s also quite handy at graphics and web design!  She’s helping me turn my new blog into something sweet for you…and I can’t wait to share it!  It’s coming soon…I promise.

After taking the time to read this (thank you!), I hope you can understand why I admire my aunt, Denise Johnson so very much.  If you’re planning a wedding, I encourage you to consider her and her shop at Bellis Studios as your invitation and creative source.

She’s not only great to work with and talented when it comes to design and color, but she’s truly a wonderful, caring, sweet person as well, who I’m lucky to have in my life.  Cheers to you, Denise!  Thank you for all you do, from the bottom of my heart!

Like I said, to know her is to love her…

…Great Gift Idea For Music Lovers!

Have you ever seen Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist?  These letterpress record coasters remind me of something straight out of that movie.

Imagine giving these as a gift to your fiance!  Or, perhaps you could use these to decorate the bar at your wedding.

The creative lil’ miss over at Maida Vale actually turned these coasters into a mini scrapbook!  To see how she did it, click HERE.  Now that would be something very cool to recieve, don’t you agree?

I could also see these being given as favors to guests!

To grab your own set of letterpress record coasters, visit Etsy seller sarahparrott825.  Also, be sure to check out the designer’s refreshing blog,  Things Are Better With A Parrot.  Rock on!

Will You Take The 2009 Wedding Pledge?

with 6 comments

…Let’s Give Recognition To Our Favorite Peeps In The Wedding Industry!

There are so many professionals in the wedding industry who I adore and look up to.  Whether it’s because of their creativity, hard work, inspiration, dedication or just plain kindness, they deserve to be recognized!  I bet you know of several or at least one.  Who in the wedding industry pops to mind that you’d like to honor?

I’ve taken a pledge.  I will publish a blog post on Tuesday, April 21st, about a person (or few) I admire in the wedding industry, but only if twenty other bloggers will do the sameTake The Pledge!

Want to go the extra mile after taking the pledge, to make it a bit more personal?

Send each of your favorite people a lovely Poppy Letterpress Card by Bellis Studios to let them know they’ve “popped to mind” and that you’ve given them recognition on your blog.  Wouldn’t that be such a nice thing to receive in the mail?  I know it would bring a smile to my day…

Thanks to Bride Tide for starting this pledge, great idea!  For more details, click HERE.  Now go on.  Take The Pledge!

A Look Back At Wedding Inspiration From 2008…

…While We Look Forward To Wedding Style In 2009!

Happy New Year!!!

This week, I thought we could take a trip down memory lane together and look back at some of my favorite entries from my blog.  While many of us are happy 2009 is here, 2008 was a great year indeed – when it came to wedding talk!  So please, sit back, grab a cup of coffee and join me as I dig up some fun for you.  I hope you enjoy!

1.) What To Do When The Planning Is Over:  Some brides who enjoyed planning their weddings from start to finish, begin to go through wedding planning withdrawal issues once the wedding is over.  So what’s a newlywed to do?  Enjoy this video posted by a bride who took actual dialog from a wedding message board and turned it into her own hilarious skit, reenacting real conversation between newlyweds!  Ready to laugh?  Click HERE.

2.) Letterpress Gift Tags: In February, fabulous letterpress gift tags became popular and were featured in the Bride & Bloom Magazine, including gorgeous ones from letterpress expert & designer Denise Johnson of Bellis Studios.  To see these beauties and read all about it, click HERE.

3.) Decorate Your Entrance With This Whimsical DIY Project:  Mimi from Enjoy Celebrations and Occasions completed a fantastic DIY project which was a true labor of love.  She wrote in different languages, “Joy”, “Love” and “Welcome” on circles then hung them with ribbon, inside a doorway leading guests to the wedding.  To see this simply lovely project and get inspired to create your own, click HERE.

4.) The Most Creative Guestbook Ideas:  Instead of the traditional guest book, this couple chose to create something that would also work as a piece of art in their home  and be cherished forever after.  They punched holes into pieces of colored plexiglass and hung them on a metal frame.  At the wedding, guests enjoyed decorating and signing the plexiglass with metallic ink pens.  The couple then illuminated the hanging art with light for a spectacular treat!  To see, click HERE.  I also came up with another creative guestbook idea – on a shower curtain!  To see this idea brides loved, click HERE.

5.) Darling Black & White Damask:  In March, I finally jumped on the inspiration board train and created my very first board, grabbing inspiration to share for a black and white damask style wedding.  Damask is still popular, so if you’re looking to get inspired for your own wedding, click HERE.  Also, find more black & white damask inspiration on my blog by clicking HERE.  I got a little excited over this trend!

6.) Wedding Invitation Assembly Guest Blog From Denise Of Bellis Studios:  So your invitations came back from the printer, now what?  Is there a special order they should go in when assembling them?  Turns out, there is.  Some printers will include a mock-up for you.  But in case yours didn’t, here’s an instruction sheet.  You can download it in pdf format by clicking HERE.

7.) A Wine-Themed Wedding Shower:  In April, I featured how to get free and stylish wine labels and also how to create wine charms to use as favors.  Find out how to get your labels by clicking HERE.  Learn to make those charms and how to throw a vino inspired shower by clicking HERE.  Cheers!

8.) Suit Up Sexy For Your Honeymoon: In May, we highlighted some very sexy retro swimwear inspired by Marilyn Monroe.  To get with the trend, click HERE.

9.) Meeting and Angel Sanchez:  I still don’t know how I got so lucky, but last year I was honored and totally thrilled to be invited to the Wedding Bloggers Luncheon at the Conde Nast building in NYC!  There I met Editor-In-Chief of, Michelle Preli, celebrity wedding gown designer Angel Sanchez and a small group of very creative wedding bloggers!  To read more about my amazing experience, click HERE, HERE and HERE!  Man, was it great time!!!

18.) It’s A Jaime Thing Interviewed On The Wedding Planning Audiocast Show:  This past fall, I was so excited when Ralph Mucci interviewed me but I cannot tell a lie – I was a tinsy bit nervous before the show.  However, Ralph was very easy to talk to and he’s a such a nice fella, so it actually ended up being a joy.  To take a listen to my show segment and read more about what you can find over at The Wedding Planning Audiocast, click HERE!
