This Weekend’s Black, White & Red Bridal Shower Pictures!

As Promised…

This weekend, as many of you know, I hosted a wedding shower at our home for my brother-in-law and his super sweet fiance.  Their wedding colors are black, ivory and burgundy, so I wanted to play off of that.  However, I didn’t want to make it exactly the same, so I stuck with black, white and red.  After weeks of planning, I’m happy to say I think it was a success!

The “sweets for the sweets” bar, as I called it, themed in black, white and red yummies:

The tablescapes.  I changed them a little, from what I was previously planning.  I forgot to put the napkins and silverware down before I took the pictures, oops!  I was just too excited!

I had three tables set up – including my kitchen table (above), and then I put a buffet table and a card table in the living room, in a “T” shape, so everyone could comfortably talk to everyone:

I had ordered red and white carnations, from Fresh & Silk Flowers, my favorite florist in the western suburbs.  They are the sweetest people and their flowers are always beautiful, plus their prices are great!  I highly recommend them to everyone.  They are located in Carol Stream, IL

I put the flowers into glass vases which I borrowed from my wonderful aunt – she had purchased them to use for my cousin’s gorgeous wedding earlier this summer.  Don’t worry, I promise to share those pictures soon too!   I had originally planned on packing the carnations really tight – but ended up deciding to use more vases than I had originally planned.  It’s ok, they still looked beautiful!  I decorated the vases with black & white striped ribbon:

Instead of having cake, we made red velvet and chocolate cupcakes which we frosted white (to go with the theme).  Each cupcake was decorated with fake silversolitaire engagement rings“:

Below are just some of the prizes I gave away at the showerblack & white note card sets, red damask candle holders and red tea light holders:

This was the first time I had ever really “entertained” in our home – so I was a little nervous.  I LOVE decorating but when it comes to preparing food or cooking, I’m domestically disabled.  So I truly have to thank my mom for all of her hard work in helping me prepare for the shower – she really did so much work!  My awesome mother-in-law also was a huge help, she helped make it beautiful by covering a lot of the costs.

The rest of our family who attended helped by calming me down, since I was all worried about trying to make it run smoothly – plus, the night before I had only gotten 2 1/2 hours of sleep (doing last minute things for the shower), so I was a tad out of it.  I never realized how much lack of sleep can affect someone, especially me!  HA HA!  I’m a lucky hostess to have such great family!

Congratulations to the happy couple, we’re really looking forward to their wedding!  My brother-in-law’s fiance is awesome, she’s going to make a great addition to our family. 🙂

  8. Wow – thank you all SO much for your sweet comments! It was a great shower, I can’t wait until their wedding now – I think part of the fun with planning this was that it included the same colors we used for our wedding a little over 5 years ago, so I got to have fun all over again! 🙂

Of course what really made it so great is that I was planning it for my brother-in-law who has been like a real brother to me – and his fiance is awesome so I was more than happy to try and make it as sweet as possible. Anyhow, thanks again for all of your comments and for reading my blog – it made my day! 🙂
