Earth Hour

Posted in In, Out, About Chicago, Life, Video at 6:45 pm by Jaime

Tonight.  EARTH HOUR.  Join us by turning off your lights for one hour, starting at 8pm.

UPDATE: The official “Earth Hour” may be over until next year, but who says you only have to do it one day?  Why not try turning your lights off more often.  If they’re not in use, make it a habit to turn a light off when you leave the room.  Can’t hurt you, the earth, or your electricity bill! :)  Win-win.  Now do it.

Join millions tonight in the effort to bring attention to and make a statement about climate change!  Learn more about it at: www.earthhourus.org, and spread the word!

What will you do in the dark for one hour?  While I’m still deciding on this one, here are a few ideas I’ve come up with:

1.  Have dinner ready before hand, and eat dinner by candlelight.

2.  Set up the candles and create a spa-like feel for a long, luxurious bath.

3.  Light the candles and light the spark between you and your honey!

4.  The obvious - take a nap!

5.  Pray or meditate.  Take time to think.  Unwind & chill, get rid of that stress.

6.  Have friends over for cocktails by candlelight, along with good conversation!

7.  Get your tiki torches out and have a party outside!

8.  Grab your cell & catch up over the phone with an old friend.

9.  Play a board game by candlelight.

10.  Live near a participating city?  Get out, walk around, and take pictures of this awesome event of businesses & homes turning off their lights.

Ok…Inspiration Block, So Let’s Laugh!

Posted in Celebrity News, Food & Drink, Life, That's Funny!, Video at 3:02 am by Jaime

You know this girl has her days where the inspiration just isn’t flowing (I think that means I need to step back and take a little break, and let life inspire me).  So what’s a girl to do?  LAUGH!  Come on…you know you need a good laugh.  Or at least a smile…so let’s smile and laugh together…

First, I bring you one of my favorite bands…”Last Fast Action“, from Chicago.  Here, they teach you how to have pearly whites for your wedding day.  But that’s not why I love them.  I love them because they’re a great band.  Wanna hear their music?  Go HERE!

But first, watch this video they created…I wonder how long it took them to get it right?! lol It’s hilarious.  Enjoy!

Next I provide you with these saucy little lizards from the SoBe “Life Water” commercial.  Apparently I missed this during the Super Bowl this year.  Oops.  Learn more about this yummy thirstification (yes, that’s a word from the Jaime Dictionary) HERE.

Top This Party!

Is This Reality?

So you think you want to be a weddings and events planner?  I know.  I get it, because I too want to be a professional event planner someday.  I truly do, with all my heart!  However, before jumping into it blinded, I’m learning more about it.  I want to make sure this is the right career decision I’m making (I mean, am I really ready to take the punches some brides are sure to throw?).

Maybe planning events and weddings is my passion now, but am I ready to roll with the big dogs?  Ask me that in a few years, and I’ll say yes.  For now, I have so much more to learn.  It’s not as easy as it looks.  It takes a lot of hard work and I understand that.  I’m currently researching the industry every day and trying to get as much experience as I can through events for friends and family.  But that’s the easy stuff (Uh, yeh…totally not able to compare that to working with strangers).

I hope the opportunity comes along where I can intern with several differnet vendors to learn each aspect of the business hands-on.  I’m slowly but truly starting to put together a portfolio of weddings and events I’ve planned so far.  I’m looking into programs to refine my organizational skills, as those skills are key.  I’m also looking into taking different courses to learn more.  The goal is to start small, and grow big.  I’ll make it happen.  But it takes time.  Ha ha…funny how I’m planning how I’m going to plan.

How did I get inspired?  Well, I fell in love with planning the first day I started to plan our wedding.  When our amazing wedding day was over, I didn’t want to stop planning.  So I didn’t.  I went on to plan parties, showers and weddings for friends and family.  Then I started to blog about it.  Through blogging, I’ve been introduced to several very talented event planning professionals, who have inspired me even more.  It’s become an obsession…I LOVE weddings.  I LOVE parties.  Sign me up, I’m in!

First, let me share with you a new “reality” tv show which I find very entertaining!  “Top This Party” on Lifetime. “Top This Party” follows event planners Brian Dobbin in Orange County, CA. and Brian “Breakfast” Rice in Las Vegas, NV. as they produce these spectacular parties for their very elite clientele

While I find this show amusing, I have to wonder - is this reality?  I mean how many of these clients, who are willing to spend millions of dollars on a single event, are really out there?  Obviously this represents the elite, but where does that distinction begin?  I think one of the most important things is understanding how to manage people, and knowing how to meet a clients’ needs without allowing them to walk all over you.

In this show, the clients expect miracles to happen.  They often expect the impossible.  My question is what happens if you cannot make these miracles happen?  I mean, where do you draw the line?  Is there a line to be drawn?  Obviously clients deserve the majority of their expectations to be met based on their budget, but what happens when it’s unrealistic?  While this question might seem daunting, for me the challenge is the excitement.

As I watch the show, I see where the planners may have gone wrong in dealing with their clients. I think the first priority in any meeting should be defining what the client is looking for, what the budget is, and how they see the outcome of the event.  If you ask these simple questions, I feel that a lot of problems could be avoided.   While I am no expert on the subject, I think a little common sense would go a long way.  What do you guys think?

Watch this video interview with Brian Dobbin, as he explains what he does, and how he does it.  Then watch what you’ve missed either On-line or On Demand.  Stay tuned and watch it every Friday at 10 & 10:30 pm et/pt.

Happy planning!

What To Do When The Planning Is Over?

Posted in That's Funny!, Video, Weddings at 10:40 pm by Jaime

Many brides have been dreaming of their wedding day since they were a little girl.  I know I did!  So when you get engaged, not only is it exciting because you’re marrying the man of your dreams, but now you also get to plan your wedding

You find yourself spending endless hours looking at flowers, dresses, figuring out the best “D.I.Y” (Do It Yourself) projects, and browsing ideas to borrow to make your wedding as dreamy as you can possibley make it.  You become so busy researching, calling, and setting up vendor appointments that it almost feels like you’ve taken up another full time job

Wedding planning…for some brides it’s fun, for some it’s not.  But for many, when the wedding is over, you find yourself trying to remember what you did before all the planning took over.  Now that there’s nothing to plan, how do you fill the void? Scrapbooking???

I found this video hilarious…found on:

“What’s A Blog?”

Posted in Video, Weddings at 2:02 pm by Jaime

If you’re like me, you often try to share your blog with your friends and family.  However, some just don’t understand what it is.  They don’t understand what a blog is, or why I blog.

When I try to explain it to those who have never heard of blogging, the best way for me to describe it is, “It’s like a website, sort of an on-line diary, where I create and post articles about things I’m interested in, and want to share with others.”.

Some still don’t “get it”.  Some do.  Some get excited to read it and tell me I’m creative.  Some tell me I have too much time on my hands…and that if I continue to blog, I’m going to get carpal tunnel.  Some think it’s great I blog, others think I’m a computer dork.  It’s ok, I enjoy blogging for me, and that’s all that matters.  After all, “It’s A Jaime Thing!”,   Not everyone will understand.

The way I look at it is this…I enjoy it.  It’s free entertainment to me, which allows me to save money by not going out as often.  It allows me to learn about things I’m interested in, such as wedding planning, ideas and inspiration from those who plan professionally.  It stimulates my brain, but in a good way!

Blogging allows me to forget about stress.  It allows me to create, therefore, to be creative.  It forces me to work on my writing skills, so my posts are enjoyable to read.  It also allows me to help friends plan their weddings, by finding unique ideas.  Blogging puts me out into the world, where I get to enjoy networking with other bloggers with the same interests.

Still don’t get what “blogging” is?  Check out this video from Ask The Blogger:

I am really looking forward to seeing more episodes of the new show on Lifetime, “How To Look Good Naked!“.  With Carson Kressley as the host, Lifetime is showing women how to feel and look sexy in their own skin, without dieting.  I love it.  Because sexy comes in all sizes.  It’s all about confidence, a smile, and what you wear.

So get excited, ladies…a new year and a new sexy is about to take over.  The show premieres January 4th on Lifetime.  Check out this preview!

Pinup Girl Makeup How-To!

Posted in Beauty, Video at 12:05 am by Jaime

Since I’ve noticed that the “pinup girl look” is coming back, I thought I’d post this fabulous video on how to get the look, with the right makeup!  I tried it last night, it’s pretty simple and so fun!  Don’t have the fake eyelashes to put on?  No problem, just apply several applications of mascara (while still wet…don’t apply over dry mascara).  Lift up with an eyelash curler, and shaaazaaam!  Beautiful lashes.  I reccomend “Great Lash Blackest Black Mascara” by Maybelline.  Now go get sexy!

Chicago Videographer…Patrick Kramford!

Posted in In, Out, About Chicago, Video, Weddings at 5:07 pm by Jaime

 Kramford Video- 630-231-8459

Wedding and special event videography, Creative, affordable, unobtrusive videography!

You know you’ve got a good vendor when you hear about them through word of mouth from several friends, and of course, several great posts on all those wedding boards!   Advertisement through rave reviews, the best kind.  Make your customer happy, and your customer tells everyone how wonderful you were, and then they tell their friends, and the chain forms.  That’s how we found Patrick.

If you haven’t gotten the pleasure of working with Patrick Kramford Videography (www.kramford.com), I’m excited to tell you about him!  After interviewing several videographers when planning our wedding, we fell in love with Patrick’s work, professionalism, kindness, and beautiful talent.   But it gets better than that…he’s also a lot more affordable than your average big name videographer!

You can tell when someone really takes pride in and cares about their work.  This is his passion, and it shows.  Everyone was so happy with our wedding video and montage, that since then several of my friends and family members have used his services for their wedding and events!

He has a way of editing and creating videos to make them seem almost movie-like.   He captures the emotion.  The feelings.  The happiness.  And the great thing is that when he films events, he doesn’t use that annoying light that makes your guests feel like a deer in headlights…so what you get is your beautiful day, just the way it was.  And quite the amazing memory to live over and over again.

So if you’re looking to capture your day on video, or to create a photo montage, contact Patrick Kramford!  Check out his website, www.kramford.com, you can even request a sample video to see how amazing his work really is!  Happy planning!

Martini Flair!

Posted in Food & Drink, Video at 7:16 pm by Jaime

The other night I was watching a cooking show, where they actually used a disco ball to pour martinis!  They first poked 3 holes in the bottom of the ball, and a larger hole on top.  They hung the disco ball with a heavy-duty string, and set up martini glasses in a circle under the ball.  They used a funnel to pour the mixed martini into the disco ball through the top hole, and as the mix went into the ball, it came out through the bottom 3 holes which then poured into the martini glasses as the disco ball turned!  IT WAS SO COOL!!!

I thought to myself, how cool would that be to hire some awesome flair bartenders for your event to not only make some yummy cocktails, but to provide some great entertainment as well!  Tried finding the video on that, had no luck, but instead found this…which is also very cool.  Check it out!

This Girl’s Got A Voice!

Posted in Video at 5:47 am by Jaime

The newest band I’m loving right now is “Paramore“.  Check out this video, this girl’s got such a beautiful strong voice, and knows how to rock it!   If I remember correctly, I believe she’s only 18, can you believe it?!

Think Avril Lavigne meets The Cranberries maybe?  Whatever it is, it’s good.  Good fun “punk” as some may call it, but I still say it’s “pop/alternative“.  Whatever you call it, check out this song/video, and see if you like it! :)

If you do love it, go out and grab their CD, “Paramore - RIOT”. Rock on.

Rock Your Wedding!

Posted in That's Funny!, Video at 3:12 pm by Jaime

With all of our friends getting married and announcing new engagements this fall, I’ve decided to post this awesome video.  I found it on another blog, www.blog.lifedesignevents.com/, but enjoyed it just as much I think as the original poster!

I’m a sucker for weddings, whether I know the couple or not, I love everything wedding!  The most important thing about a wedding, in my opinion, is to have fun, and soak it up as much as you can because the day always flies by so quickly.  Looks like this couple mastered the having fun part…check it out!

A Must Read Wedding Blog!

Posted in That's Funny!, Video, Weddings at 11:22 pm by Jaime

Check Out This Site:  www.youmaynowkisstheblog.com

A funny and fabulous wedding blog created by a truthful bride, who shares with us all the ups and downs of planning her wedding.  She includes cartoons and videos to express her “bridezilla” feelings, and it’s simply hilarious!   The even funnier thing is that I can actually relate to it.  After my husband proposed, I became wedding obsessed.

Want to see me?  Her reaction to the groom’s proposal WAS my reaction to my husband’s proposal.  Which, if you knew me then, you’ll be on the floor laughing in no time!  Enjoy!
