In Love With Pinup Style…

…And Wheels & Doll Baby!

My good friends threw me  an “Old Hollywood” themed birthday party this weekend, so you know I couldn’t resist dressing the part!  While I love vintage style, I am definitely a fan of the whole pinup look and I’m thrilled to see I’m not the only one!  Yes darlings, this glam look is coming back.   Of course it is…it’s hot!

This got me thinking.  If you’re getting married,  how fun would it be to get all your girls to dress up pinup for your bachelorette party?  Or, if you’re planning a retro fabulous wedding, dress your bridesmaids in pencil skirts and sweetheart tops instead of bridesmaid dresses.  Take a look at one of my favorite places to find inspiration and shop for this look…

Wheels & Doll Baby!

At Wheels & Doll Baby, you’ll find everything you need to achieve that fabulous femme fatale pinup look, whether it’s evening wear, casual or just plain flirty.  From clothing to accessories, you’re set!  Seriously sexy.

Searching for more inspiration?  Last week over at the Wishpot Fashion Finds blog, I featured a few of my favorite sites on pinup and vintage style.  To read my guest blog entry, click  HERE.  Get glam.

Pinup Girl Makeup How-To!

with 2 comments

Since I’ve noticed that the “pinup girl look” is coming back, I thought I’d post this fabulous video on how to get the look, with the right makeup!  I tried it last night, it’s pretty simple and so fun!  Don’t have the fake eyelashes to put on?  No problem, just apply several applications of mascara (while still wet…don’t apply over dry mascara).  Lift up with an eyelash curler, and shaaazaaam!  Beautiful lashes.  I reccomend “Great Lash Blackest Black Mascara” by Maybelline.  Now go get sexy!

Pale Pinup Look Is Back!

with 2 comments

At my friend’s baby shower the other day, I noticed my other friend Emily was all decked out in “pinup look”.  The long blond wavy hair, red lipstick, pale skin, red satin blouse with white polka dots, she really pulled it off and looked great!  We were all joking with her telling her she looked like a little pinup girl!

Well, then I discover the new model for Fredericks of Hollywood, Dita Von Teese

In their latest catalog, she’s all dressed up to look like a pinup too…as shown in this picture here.

I think we’re catching on to something here…Emily you are ahead of the trend!  Because earlier today, I came across the photo shoot that Katherine Heigl recently did, from www.popsugar.com, and sure enough, it’s very “pin up”!

Check it out!

Finally a time that was sexy and cool…coming back in style.  I’m officially proud to be pale! 🙂

A Retro Bridal Shower…

with 6 comments

…So Fitting For The Soon-To-Be Wife!

Sure, times have changed.  Much of what used to be tradition had gone out the window.  Poof, gone!  Just like that.  However, nothing says we can’t bring a little bit of it back, right?  I mean, they do it all the time when it comes to fashion, so why not bring it home too?

This week over at the OneWed Savvy Scoop Blog, I guest blogged about a theme to bring out the pinup housewife in all of you…so of course I had to share!  If you’re planning a bridal shower, get ready to get girly…

Consider serving cherry pie instead of cake and grab some Coca Cola inspiration from my friend Kim over at Head Of The Table.  Or, customize your own bottles with Jones Soda!  To personalize, use similar sayings like shown on the gift bags above or even upload vintage themed photos to your bottle labels.

Thank your guests or pamper the bride with pretty little pinup style bath products from one of my favorite stores, Margarita Bloom!

When it comes time to decorate your shower space, mix your retro theme up with this unique turquoise and red Modern Kitchen Theme by Hostess With The Mostess!

I especially adore how serving utensils were used for the centerpieces – what a great idea!  After the shower, let the bride take them home so she can work on becoming her own domestic diva self.  Don’t forget the apron!

Modish Ballerina Bride!

with 3 comments

No, Not Me…I’m Not That Graceful!

But I know a few brides out there who are, so why not incorporate it into your wedding and dance the night away…after all, that’s one of the things you do best, right?  This idea was inspired by this gorgeous shot by the Memory Journalists team in California…

Tippy-toe your way through the bridal shops to find your ballerina-like tulle dress, or browse around places such as Etsy where I found THIS totally cool dress:

Perhaps you could even deck out your bridesmaids in tulle slips by Your Slip Is Showing or tulle skirts by Wheels And Doll Baby.  Think adorable little tutus by Etsy seller Jiniaj for not just your flower girl, but maybe your dog or cat too (ok, maybe not your cat, she might scratch your eyeball out if you tried to dress her in a tutu!  Reeeowww!).

Throw your hair up in a classic or funky bun by adorning it with some fun feathers like this bride did, as shown on The Knot.  A hair piece like the one below could easily even replace the traditional veil:

Get on your dancing shoes with gorgeous ballet shoes by Repetto.  Or, shop around for others such as these gorgeous ballerina inspired shoes:

(Top Row:  Stuart Weitzman Nitetime, Paris Hilton Epic, Luichiny Duchess Silver SatinSecond Row:  J Crew Jeweled Jelly, Jessica Simpson LezlyThird Row:  Johnathan Kayne Miami, Touch Ups Mandy.)

You mind as well turn your bridesmaids into ballerinas too! I absolutely love the affordable ballet slipper shoes from Old Navy.  Let your girls be comfy and they’ll love you even more!  Or, head over to Like.com to find thousands of pairs in the style you have in your mind.  You can even upload a picture of a shoe you find in a magazine, and Like.com will show you results of shoes similar to that shoe…such a fun way to shop!

For all the other details, just keep your eyes and your mind open.  Think tulle.  Think pink.  Perhaps you could wrap your cake stand in a tutu like this cupcake tutu stand from Pink Cake Box.  That is, if your fiance agrees to it…ha ha.  Hey, if not, it could always be done for your bridal shower, right?

Whatever you choose, have fun with it.  Whether it’s classic, goth, white, pink, black make it your own style and it’ll surely be a hit!

Let’s Get Pouty…

…Bat Those Lashes & Pucker Up Those Lips In A Hot Lil’ Ruby Red!

I don’t know what’s happening to me.  I never used to pay attention to makeup application techniques – I would always kind of just do my makeup the way I knew how.  Then I started blogging and a whole new world opened up my eyes to some fabulous beauty secrets!

Take this awesome vintage look how-to video I found from a post over at the Vintage Glam Blog via one of my new blogging brides – Laurel from Ramblings Of A Future Mrs:

It makes me want to go get all dolled up just watching it!  If you’re looking for ways to do your makeup for your wedding day, this look would be stunning!  Also, check out THIS video I posted a while back to see a really cool video of how to achieve that “pinupmakeup look.

 Now go get pouty.
