Martini Flair!

Posted in Food & Drink, Video at 7:16 pm by Jaime

The other night I was watching a cooking show, where they actually used a disco ball to pour martinis!  They first poked 3 holes in the bottom of the ball, and a larger hole on top.  They hung the disco ball with a heavy-duty string, and set up martini glasses in a circle under the ball.  They used a funnel to pour the mixed martini into the disco ball through the top hole, and as the mix went into the ball, it came out through the bottom 3 holes which then poured into the martini glasses as the disco ball turned!  IT WAS SO COOL!!!

I thought to myself, how cool would that be to hire some awesome flair bartenders for your event to not only make some yummy cocktails, but to provide some great entertainment as well!  Tried finding the video on that, had no luck, but instead found this…which is also very cool.  Check it out!

Let Them Eat Cake?

Posted in Food & Drink at 6:41 pm by Jaime

Let ME eat cake!

I love cake!  And if you know me, you know how I’ve been obsessing over the fact that I got jipped out of my own wedding cake at our wedding…lol.  Yes, my husband thinks I’m crazy every time I tell this story, but here it is.  Aside from marrying the man I love, the other thing I was looking forward to at my wedding was eating our wedding cake!

Well, we did the cake cutting together, I got a bite, went to grab the plate of cake to bring to the table and eat (I was SO excited to eat that cake!!!), and my husband thought it’d be a good idea that we instead wait and eat the cake together with our guests, after dinner.  Ok fine.

Well, after dinner I figured our cake would be served…instead, the hall had cut it and allowed guests to grab their own plate by the cake table.  As the night flew by, I was too busy to think about it, enjoying our night an all…and so I never got my cake.  I’d only had the bite my husband served to me during our cake cutting.

JIPPED?  No, not yet…it’d be ok, we’d just freeze the cake and I’d eat it on our anniversary.  “I can wait again, I suppose,” I thought to myself.  Well, apparently we didn’t freeze it well enough, because it grew moldy.  However I was still determined, mold and all, to eat around it, figuring some of it still had to be good, people eat frozen cakes all the time on their anniversary, right?  Nope, I couldn’t do it.  It just went bad.  Damn it!

So now I constantly crave cake, and I think it’s because I got jipped out of our wedding cake.  What’s a girl to do?  Enjoy other people’s wedding cakes!  That’s the next best thing, right?  Thank goodness my friends are all getting married!!!  They say, “let them eat cake”.  Fine, as long as I get mine!

Moral of the story?  Brides, make sure your cake is SERVED not just presented.  Get yours!

This Girl’s Got A Voice!

Posted in Video at 5:47 am by Jaime

The newest band I’m loving right now is “Paramore“.  Check out this video, this girl’s got such a beautiful strong voice, and knows how to rock it!   If I remember correctly, I believe she’s only 18, can you believe it?!

Think Avril Lavigne meets The Cranberries maybe?  Whatever it is, it’s good.  Good fun “punk” as some may call it, but I still say it’s “pop/alternative“.  Whatever you call it, check out this song/video, and see if you like it! :)

If you do love it, go out and grab their CD, “Paramore - RIOT”. Rock on.

Platinum Cake: $130,000! Wow.

“Ladies, frost yourselves!” - How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days

Check out this platinum cake.  It’s interesting, but for me, it’s all about the frosting…as long as I have yummy frosting, I’m a happy girl!

Found on www.yumsugar.com

‘A Japanese pastry chef and jeweller have joined forces to create a spectacular cake festooned with platinum ornaments.

Nobue Ikara’s multi-tiered cake is draped in platinum necklaces as well as edible platinum foils, which can be worn either as a hair pin or as a necklace, ndtv.com reports.

The cake has been dedicated to Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi, leading model Chie Kumasawa as well as other eminent women across the arts and in industry and was constructed as a promotional tool to entice women to buy more platinum jewellery.

Mikiko Ichikawa, of the Platinum Guild, said: “I think platinum and a white cake is the best possible combination as a present for women because both have the same colour of white, which is said to have pureness and brightness that lasts forever.”‘

The cake retails at $130,000.

This blogger thought about providing interesting choices on her rsvp cards.  While I will not name the blog since I’m trying to keep mine somewhat PG, it still deserves recognition…as it’s too funny!  To see this blog, click Here.

The blogger was planning her wedding, and was finding it funny to predict guests’ feelings on declining or attending on the rsvp cards.  Instead of writing, “Regretfully decline,” or “Happily Attend”, she thought why not make up a new card.  Short and simple.  Will Attend, or Will Not Attend.

The cards she sent out:

After she sent out the above cards, she started wondering if she should have made more choices available.  The choices were hilarious!

Sometimes wedding planning can get stressful, worrying about the details of every little thing.  What to write, what not to write……what to serve, what not to serve, etc.  Which is why it’s always handy to have a wedding planner help you with these decisions. :)  We’ll make it stress-free.  Fun.   Memorable.  Yours.

Thanks for the laughs, AFW! :)

Cherished Memories With Collages!

Posted in Art, Gift Ideas, Home Decor, Photography at 2:27 am by Jaime

I’ll never forget, when I was in high school, I created a HUGE collage on my wall.  It  was a work of art that I took great pride in.  I’m still amazed to this day that my mother let me put tape on that wall…but I’m thankful.

My collage was made out of art, magazine clippings, articles, words, everything I’d find that described me, went up on that wall.  No pictures of people, just art and words.

Today, I enjoy creating collages on other items, such as bottles, vases, boxes, frames, you name it.  I just enjoy making them personal, as each one is different to describe the person it’s being made for.

I’ll show you some of my work soon, but for now I want to share another artist who makes amazing collages, with portraits.  Michelle Caplan.  I’ve seen this work done before, but never so beautiful as this.

Go to http://michellecaplan.blogspot.com/, to see more of what I’m loving!  Her work is breathtaking…it really captures the moments, and creates a beautiful treasures to forever hold onto.  Here’s one piece she did…check it out!  Tell me that’s not true love!

They will greet & seat you, and take your drink orders. Then you can get up and explore the ship!  As it pulls away from the dock, grab your streamers & your drinks for festive Bon Voyage toast.  Once you’ve been invited up to the Grande Buffet, take as little or as much as you like…for as long as the buffet is open.   While you dine, you’ll be entertained with a narrated tour of Chicago’s breathtaking skyline from the huge panoramic windows.

Artful Wedding Photography…

Posted in Photography, Style/Fashion at 7:11 am by Jaime

I came across this picture from www.artfotoblog.com, and it immediately caught my eye.  If you look closely, it almost looks as though the bride’s veil is making the shape of wings, making her even more “angelic” looking than she already was that day.

There are so many amazing poses for photographers to shoot.  Some, however, are best when the people in the picture are not even aware the shot is being taken.

Make sure before your wedding day that you interview several photographers, ask them tons of questions.   Handing them a “must take photo” list can come in handy the day of, to make sure your photographer gets the shots taken that are really important to you.

If you are worried about photography poses taking too much time out of your wedding day, no worries!   Several brides choose to have their pictures done ahead of time, sometimes even days or weeks ahead!

This idea works great for portraits of the bride, many will put that dress on in advance, get those pictures done, so on their wedding day there is less time posing and more time enjoying their actual wedding day.  After all, it only happens once!

For ideas on what questions to ask photographers, or for “must take photo” inspiration, check out www.theknot.com, a very useful and helpful wedding planning site!

Art You Can Relate To…

Every once in a while I find amazing artists through blogging, and just have to share them!  Check out this art by www.stellaimhultberg.com:

One of the reasons I love art, whether it’s on paper, through music, dance, or other things, is how it can make you feel.  How you can find yourself relating to it, how it calms you and helps you find peace.  When something you can relate to touches your heart, it really just makes it so awesome.  Do you concur? :)

Help Fight For The Cure…Susan G. Komen

Posted in Weddings at 8:38 am by Jaime

While browsing through a few of my favorite blogs, I came across this post from “Life Design Event Planning”,  http://blog.lifedesignevents.com/.

A talented and inspirational event planner, this blogger is asking for our help.  A close family member of hers has been diagnosed with cancer.  While it’s easy to sit back and do nothing, it’s hard to imagine it being your family member or your friend.  I ask myself, “If I posted a blog asking people to help someone dear to me, would I want people to sit back and pretend they didn’t read it?”.  The answer is no.  So I have posted this blog, to ask those of you who can help, in any way, to please help.

Whether it’s posting this on your blog, walking for the cure, donating, or starting your own fundraising efforts, let’s all fight for the cure the best way we can.  And to those who have had family members or friends/loved ones pass from this disease, you’re in my prayers.  God bless, take care, and let’s take care of eachother.  Here’s a link to her fundraising site…if you are interested in donating.  She’s willing to send the first 10 people who donate a wine charm, as shown below, if you go through her site.

Here’s her site to donate: http://www.active.com/donate/phoenix2007/CicelysFriends

Always fascinated by cupcakes and their yumminess, I enjoy finding ideas on how to decorate them!  What a perfect idea this would be, for any engagement party, shower, or bachelorette party!  Just stick fake diamond plastic rings into the frosting, and wa-la!  Even great for a wedding!

Check it out:

Idea from www.buttercakebakery.com in CA.

UPDATED:  This past weekend I helped host a bridal shower for one of my very good friends, and decided to make these fun little diamond ring cupcakes!  They were a hit!

It’s A Boy!

Posted in Weddings at 10:19 pm by Jaime

Just found out the exciting news that my best friend is having a boy!  Confirmed today at her doctor’s appointment, she is having a baby boy!  Yes!  I’m so excited for her.  Asked if she had some names picked out, and still none yet.  But while she’s obsessing over that, I can finally start obsessing over her baby shower plans!!!

I have the cutest ideas in mind.  One year, for some friends of mine, I made a diaper cake.  Super cute.  Super easy.  I also floated rubber duckies in clear glass vases filled with water.  Tied candles with tiny plastic pacifiers, and, since they were having a girl, decorated in all pink…balloons, flowers, ribbon, pink pink pink!  Tell me what would the world do without the color pink?  No pink for this shower though, as it’s a boy on the way!  So of course I’ll find neat ways to decorate with blues.

Here’s some pictures to give you an idea as to what I’m planning!

Paint The Town Red…Or At Least The Table!

Posted in Food & Drink, Home Decor at 8:35 pm by Jaime

Lately I’ve been thinking about how sometimes it’s so hard to get together with everyone, because life just gets too hectic.   Sometimes you’ll make plans to eventually get together, but it’s just too easy to put off.  So I’m going to fix that.

I’m thinking about planning a “Girl’s Night” one of these days.  Not sure when yet, but it needs to happen soon.  My girlfriends and I were doing this for a while every few weeks or so, but fell off the wagon.  So I think I’ll plan one for my girlfriends, and one for the girls in my family.  Two seperate get togethers.  Otherwise it gets too big and it needs to be cozy!  I love my family, I love my friends, and I love planning parties, so I think this is really just what the doctor ordered!

While I do not have a date set in my mind yet, planning this before the holidays come around is probably our best bet.   Maybe I’ll shoot for October.  I could throw a Halloween party but I think I’d prefer something more simple, and something more girly.  An excuse to decorate in different color themes, besides orange and black! :)  Or perhaps I could make it a holiday get together…lots to ponder!

What a better way to start a girls night…than with the boys!  Only these boys of course.  This CD can be found at www.socialcouture, for $18.00.  Now “That’s Life”!

I’m loving this “Red Theme”, found at www.socialcouture.com, an excellent planning site for finding all the tools you’ll ever need for planning and decorating your party!  Red is one of my favorite colors, and this would be perfect for a holiday party!

Let the planning begin!

Here’s another red theme I love…how fun are the polka dots!

And yet one more red themed look: Picture thanks to: http://www.alwaysabridesmaid.typepad.com/,

Color It Eventful!

Posted in Weddings at 8:22 pm by Jaime

My obsession with weddings and party planning continues…I can’t get enough!  With all the great event planning blogs and sites out there, sometimes it keeps me from laundry that’s supposed to be done.  But it’s ok, I’ll sneak this in between laundry loads…lol.

Check it out.  Found this awesome table setting idea great for any event, whatever the occasion, I’m simply loving these colors together!

Photo thanks to www.hostesswiththemostess.com, an awesome & very inspirational event planning/decor site.

It’s just so very “zen”, don’t you agree?

Rock Your Wedding!

Posted in That's Funny!, Video at 3:12 pm by Jaime

With all of our friends getting married and announcing new engagements this fall, I’ve decided to post this awesome video.  I found it on another blog, www.blog.lifedesignevents.com/, but enjoyed it just as much I think as the original poster!

I’m a sucker for weddings, whether I know the couple or not, I love everything wedding!  The most important thing about a wedding, in my opinion, is to have fun, and soak it up as much as you can because the day always flies by so quickly.  Looks like this couple mastered the having fun part…check it out!

“Window Shopping”

Posted in Home Decor at 4:33 am by Jaime

Sometimes I just enjoy window shopping.  Even if I don’t buy anything, it’s discovering things that I get a thrill out of!  Some keep a hope chest, some keep shopping bags, but I, keep a blog…and now I plan to share “a few of my favorite things”.  So to start, here’s something great I came across tonight.  Take a look!

Who says you’re too old to draw on the walls?  Check out www.wonderfulgraffiti.com, an awesome store to find unique decor ideas for your walls.  Don’t just entertain your guests, entertain your walls.  Entertain yourself!

With typographical art, vinyl transfers that look “printed” on your walls, and hangings, this store has it all to make your room complete.  I love it.
